Karth died today. Right before my eyes, he –died–. I tried so hard to aid him, but having only recently come into my magic, my efforts proved fruitless. I have never in my life felt so truly powerless. I watched another person die before my very eyes, and there was absolutely nothing I could do.

And yet, later in the afternoon, I found myself sitting with him in his shop as he ate and drank. Through the grace of some power I do not fully understand–one that I rather suspect does not have everyone’s best interests in mind–Karth was resurrected. Neither he, nor any of the others seemed to experience this restoration in the same manner that I did, and I can only assume that it happened by my hand –somehow–. I truly hope this is not part of the new power of which I am possessed, for I do not feel fit to bear the weight of such responsibility.

Forgive my scattered thoughts, Kailie. The day’s events are simply too overshadowed to summarize right at the moment. I can only say that the wilderness around Stannisberg is far darker and more dangerous than I ever had any inkling of. I cannot help but wonder if your brother knew what it was that he sent me off to the day that he booked my passage across the sea. If so…

This day has seen enough darkness to continue that line of reasoning. The adventure continues tomorrow, and Maiel willing, it will be a less perilous experience. For now, I must try to rest.
